Up here, the weatherman is always wrong....

A little about the weather up here. Everyone's comments were always 'Do you know how much it snows up here?' Yes. Yes I do. I don't necessarily like it and I have not seen it terribly bad yet but I have no doubt some day, I will be snowed in. And just amazed at how much of a white blanket can bury shit. So the title of this post is that up here, the weather man is always wrong. I say that because the weather changes SO fast, it is really uncanny and weird sometimes. Scary even. We have had sunshine, pouring down rain, snow and hail all in the same day. I am sure other places have too, I am not saying UP HERE the weather can't make up it's mind. I know it is like that a lot in Green Bay too. I am saying UP HERE, it happens a little faster because of the lake front. Storms roll in a little faster, the wind blows a little harder - and if you are unlucky when it starts blowing that hard and you are driving, don't count on ever seeing anything. Slow down, put your hazards on, and stick to the right. I am still learning this part, the whole stay in the right lane thing. Sheesh. So last October or November, it snowed. It snowed for days, just over 3 feet. Tony had cleared a path from his back door to where the cars are parked. When I pulled up, holy Christ. It was like a mini wall of snow. I walked through this path and it was well over my knees. Oh boy. I bought new winter boots after that. Still have not had the chance to actually wear them in the snow up here, but I am sure this winter, I will. There are no sidewalks in the winter up here in Ishpeming. No winter parking, which is normal, but the plows plow right over the sidewalks. The curbs are worn down from the plows. The people up here shovel the best they can so they can park and get the vehicles in and out, so they can get their mail and just get in and out of their house. People walk down the street, not on the sidewalks. Four wheelers run legally down the street, helmets on of course. It's a slower pace up here and it is all normal. In the winter, you do what you have to do in the winter. There are even yooper size shovels. I can't remember exactly what they are called but they are here. And roof rakes so they can pull the snow off the roof because there is so much of it. And I moved up here willingly...... So ya, the lake up here helps the weather change in the blink of an eye. The elevation change from Marquette (15-20 minutes away) to Ishpeming is quite substantial and the weather pattern is very different in those 20 minutes. It can be light fluffy rain (snow) down in Marquette but in Ish, it can be blowing like crazy with no visibility. That's the lake for you. She wastes no time showing her true emotions to people. This is her land, she will act how she pleases. I am trying to figure out how to post pictures on my posts because I have a lot to share! Tune in soon for more U.P. life.....the weather this morning is fine..overcast and a little breezy. I have job interviews today so I am hoping the rain stays away. I may have to actually invest in an umbrella someday....Yooper sized. XOXOXO Until next time - Not a Yooper - Sarah
